Elite Force PS2 review

Features

These are the features you should expect from Elite Force 2

There may be minor spoilers on this page.

Single Player

Advanced 3D Engine

The graphics engine used in Elite Force 2 will be a enhanced version of the Quake 3 Team Arena engine, powered by Ritual's UberTools. Noteable diferences from the original Elite Force will be larger maps and inclusion of Environmental effects (like rain).

12 missions: 1-7 levels each: 7 boss matches

There will be 12 missions. Each mission has varying numbers of levels (from 1 to 7). It is said to be one and a half times bigger than the original Elite Force. It will feature 7 boss matches.
Current known locations are:

  • Inside borg sphere (Voyager finale)
  • Starfleet Academy
  • Enterprise-E (bridge)
  • Romulan and Klingon starships
  • Hull of a starship
  • Snowing Romulan planet
  • Derelict Federation ship
  • Overgrown swamp
  • Hostile volcanic environment
  • Alien starbase

Voice acting

Tim Russ (Tuvok), along with the original hazard team cast will be returning to voice act, in addition to Steward Patrick (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jeffrey Combs (Weyoun from DS9 and others), Dwight Schultz (Reg Barclay from TNG/VOY) and Tony Todd (Worf's brother Kurn in TNG). Other TNG/VOY cast members may voice act as well.

Old and New enemies (or friends)

You will encounter the normal alpha quandrant lot, but also 3 brand new races. During missions, it will be hard to determine if a alien is hostile or friendly.
Known races in the game are:

  • Federation (duh!)
  • Andorians
  • Romulans
  • Klingon
  • Borg
  • Ferengi
  • Nausicaans
New races in the game:
  • Exomorphs
Your main enemy, a nightmarish, zerg-like creatures that were genetically engineered.
  • Attexians
Industrious/Economically based civilisation occupying space in the neutral zone.
  • Idryll
An intelligent/cultural race living in now Attrexian territory. Most are slaves/workers of the Attexians.

Gear and Weapons

You will get to use 13 weapons including familiars from the original Elite Force and some new ones too. All guns will have alternate-fire mode and at least one gun has a third.
The weapons include:

  • Phaser
  • Phaser Compression Rifle
  • Enhanced Compression Rifle
  • Federation Assault Rifle
  • Federation Sniper Rifle
  • Federation Grenade Launcher
  • Tetryon Gatling Gun
  • I-Mod (Infinite Modulator, Used to kill Borg)
  • Photon (Quantum?) Burst (Rocket like weapon, not as powerful as the EF1 version)
  • Attrexian Arc Launcher (Lightning gun)
  • Romulan Disruptor
  • Romulan Experimental Radiation Disruptor
  • Klingon Bat'Leth (Hand-to-Hand weapon)
  • Mystical Energy Staff (???)

The Tricorder will be used often in the game to solve puzzles. Uses for the tricorder are:

  • Scanning
  • Radar
  • Trace gas emmisions
  • Structural integrity scan
  • Trip-wire detection
  • Cloak detection
  • To call in torpedo strikes from orbit
  • Interfacing with computer systems

The hazard suit will also offer night vision to navigate in dark areas.

Multiplayer

A theoretical maximum of 64 players can play in one map, although 32 may be a more realistic number.

All new game modes

Game modes will include enhanced versions of modes from the original Elite Force and XP and some new ones. Unfortunately, the Assimilation mode will not be returning.
Included modes are:

  • Free for All
  • Team Holomatch
  • Capture the flag
  • Plasma bomb defusal
In this mode one side plants a bomb in the enemy's base. You'll then need to diffuse it before it detonates or successfully wait it out until the timer expires without the other team planting a bomb, depending on which side you're on.
  • New modes that were thought to be included: Protect the Admiral, Warp core breach

Modifiers can be stacked and used with modes above
Old modifiers include:

  • Specialties (Classes)
  • Domination
  • Elimination
  • Action Hero
  • Disintegration

New modifiers are:

  • Control Points
  • Power Struggle
  • Auto Handicap
  • Weapon Score
  • One Flag
